How do dental implants work in Seoul, and how long does treatment take?

A dental implant is a titanium root placed in the jawbone that supports a crown, bridge or denture. At Gangnam One Day Dental Clinic, implants are planned with 3D CT, placed using OSSTEM or MegaGen systems, and restored in an in-house lab. Treatment usually takes 2 to 6 months, or less when bone allows an immediate-load (same-day) implant.

Which implant treatment fits your situation?

Implant treatment is not one procedure. The right option depends on how many teeth are missing, how much bone you have, and how quickly you need teeth back. Our 13 dentists work across 5 departments, so oral surgery, periodontics and prosthodontics plan your case together.

If one tooth is missing, a single-tooth implant replaces it without touching the neighbouring teeth. If most or all teeth are missing, a fixed full arch such as All-on-4 or a removable implant-supported denture may suit you better.

  • One missing tooth: single implant and crown
  • Several teeth in a row: implant bridge on 2 or more implants
  • A whole arch: All-on-4, full-arch fixed bridge or implant overdenture
  • Extraction needed today: immediate implant, when bone and stability allow
  • Problem with an existing implant: implant repair and occlusion check

How we plan and place implants

Every case starts with a 3D CT scan and an intraoral scan. These show bone height, width and nerve position, so the implant size and angle are chosen before surgery. Implant surfaces can be treated with PlasmaOne vacuum plasma before placement.

After the crown is fitted, Chief Director Dr. Kim Jin-hwan's team checks the bite with T-Scan Novus digital occlusion analysis. Dr. Kim wrote the chapter "Controlling the Occlusion of Implant-Supported Restorations" in the IGI Global Handbook of Research on T-Scan Technology Applications in Dental Medicine. Balanced bite forces help protect the implant over time.

  • OSSTEM and MegaGen implant systems
  • PlasmaOne vacuum plasma surface treatment
  • T-Scan Novus bite analysis after loading

Treatment for patients travelling to Seoul

About 60% of our implant patients travel from outside Seoul. Our in-house Oneday Lab, opened in 2022 in our Startplex building, can make temporary to final prosthetics in one day with CAD/CAM milling, which helps reduce the number of trips.

When bone allows, an immediate-load implant can give you a temporary tooth on the day of surgery. Where bone is thin, bone grafting may be needed first, which adds healing time. Send your X-ray or CT on WhatsApp and we will outline the likely number of visits before you book flights.

How it works at Oneday Dental

  1. Before travel

    WhatsApp review

Send recent X-rays, CT or photos. We reply with a provisional plan, likely visits and an estimate range.

  2. Day 1

    Examination and 3D CT

Full exam, 3D CT and intraoral scan. The dentist confirms the plan, implant system and timeline with you.

  3. Surgery day

    Implant placement

Implants are placed under local anaesthesia, with IV sleep sedation if you prefer. A temporary tooth may be fitted when stability allows.

  4. 2–6 months

    Healing

The bone bonds to the implant (osseointegration). Many patients return home during this period.

  5. Final visit

    Final crown and bite check

The final crown or bridge is fitted and the bite is balanced with T-Scan Novus.

Things to know before you decide

  • Uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking or recent jaw radiotherapy can reduce implant success; the dentist reviews your medical history first.
  • Thin or soft bone may need bone grafting, which typically adds 3–6 months of healing.
  • Gum disease must be treated before implants, because untreated infection can spread to the implant (peri-implantitis).
  • Swelling and mild discomfort for 2–5 days after surgery are common.
  • Implants need daily cleaning and regular check-ups; they cannot decay but the surrounding gum and bone can still become inflamed.

FAQ

Dental Implants: common questions

How much do dental implants cost in Seoul?
The cost depends on the implant system, crown material, number of implants and whether bone grafting is needed. We do not quote a fixed price without seeing your mouth. Send your X-ray or CT on WhatsApp and the dentist will give an estimate range, then confirm it after the 3D CT examination in Gangnam.
Which implant brands do you use?
We use OSSTEM and MegaGen, two Korean implant systems. The dentist chooses the system and size based on your bone quality, the position of the tooth and your bite. If you already have an implant from another clinic, tell us the brand if you know it, as this helps with future repairs.
How many trips to Seoul will I need?
Most single or multiple implant cases need two trips: one for surgery and one for the final crown about 2 to 6 months later. If bone allows immediate loading, you may leave the first trip with a fixed temporary tooth. Complex full-arch or bone-graft cases can need an extra visit.
Does implant surgery hurt?
The area is numbed with local anaesthesia, so you feel pressure rather than sharp pain during surgery. IV sleep sedation is available if you are anxious. Afterwards, swelling and soreness typically last 2 to 5 days and are usually managed with prescribed pain relief and cold compresses.
Can I get an implant if I was told I don't have enough bone?
Often yes. Options include bone grafting, a sinus lift in the upper back jaw, shorter implants, or angled implants as used in All-on-4. A 3D CT scan shows exactly how much bone is available, and the dentist explains which option fits your case.
Can I speak English with the dentist?
Yes. Our team communicates in English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. All inquiries, X-ray reviews and appointment requests are handled on WhatsApp at +82-10-5298-2875, so you have a written record of your plan, estimate and appointment times to refer back to.
