What is an implant-supported denture?
An implant-supported denture is a full denture that clips onto 2 to 4 dental implants, so it stays in place when you eat and speak. It is still removable for cleaning. At Gangnam One Day Dental Clinic, implants are planned with 3D CT and the denture is made in-house. Treatment typically takes 3 to 6 months, and existing dentures can sometimes be converted.

Why conventional dentures come loose
A conventional denture rests on the gums and is held by suction. Once teeth are lost, the jawbone slowly shrinks, so the denture loses its grip over time. Lower dentures are especially unstable because the tongue lifts them.
Implants act as anchors. Even two implants in the lower jaw greatly improve stability and chewing for most people. Because implants transmit bite forces to the bone, they also help slow further bone loss under the denture.
Removable or fixed: the three main designs
Implant-retained snap-on denture: small attachments (ball or locator) on 2 to 4 implants clip into the denture. It is removed every night for cleaning. This is usually the most affordable implant option.
Bar-retained overdenture: a metal bar connects 3 to 4 implants and the denture clips onto it. It is more stable than individual attachments and is common in the upper jaw.
Fixed full arch: the teeth are screwed to 4 to 6 implants and only the dentist can remove them. See All-on-4 dental implants for this option.

If your existing denture fits well and the teeth are in good condition, it can sometimes be converted by adding attachments after the implants heal. Otherwise, a new denture is designed from intraoral scans and made in our Oneday Lab.
If you do not yet wear a denture, read about conventional dentures first, or compare all options on our dental implants hub.

3D CT and implant placement
Implant sites are chosen from the 3D CT. Implants are placed under local anaesthesia, with IV sleep sedation if you prefer.
- Healing
Wear an adjusted denture
Your denture is softened and relieved over the implants so you can wear it while they heal, typically 2 to 4 months.
- Trip 2
Attachments and denture
Attachments are connected and the new or converted denture is fitted and adjusted.
- Ongoing
Maintenance
Check-ups and replacement of attachment inserts about every 1 to 2 years keep the denture firm.
Things to know before you decide
- Severe bone loss may need grafting or a different implant layout.
- The denture must be removed and cleaned daily, and the implants brushed, to avoid inflammation.
- Attachment inserts wear out and need periodic replacement.
- Upper jaws usually need 4 implants because the bone is softer.
- Health conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes or heavy smoking increase implant risks.
