What is Zoom whitening and how long does it take?
Zoom whitening is a professional in-office treatment in which a whitening gel is applied to the teeth and activated with a light, usually in three or four 15-minute cycles. The full appointment typically takes 1 to 1.5 hours. At Gangnam One Day Dental Clinic, the teeth and gums are examined first, because restorations do not whiten.

What happens in the chair
Zoom is an in-office method, so everything is done in one appointment. After an examination and shade record, your lips and cheeks are held back with a retractor and a protective barrier is painted over the gums. Only the visible front surfaces of the teeth are exposed to the gel.
The whitening gel is applied and activated with a light for about 15 minutes, then removed and reapplied. Most patients have three or four cycles. The team watches your comfort between cycles and can stop early if sensitivity builds. Your final shade is recorded against the starting shade.
- Gum barrier protects soft tissue from the gel
- Gel refreshed every cycle for even action
- Shade photographed before and after
- Desensitising gel can be applied at the end
Zoom compared with other whitening options
Zoom gives the fastest visible change, which suits visitors with only a day or two in Seoul or patients with an event coming up. Take-home trays work more slowly but are gentler and easy to repeat. Our teeth whitening in Seoul page compares all the options side by side.
Many patients combine one Zoom session with take-home trays. The in-office session gives the head start, and the trays deepen and stabilise the shade over the next 1-2 weeks after you return home.

Zoom gel does not whiten crowns, veneers, fillings or bonding. If these are on your front teeth, they may look darker afterwards. The dentist points this out at examination so you can decide whether to replace them after whitening.
Untreated cavities, cracked teeth, exposed roots and inflamed gums make in-office whitening uncomfortable and should be treated first. If you already have sensitive teeth, the dentist may suggest a shorter session or take-home trays instead.
| Zoom in-office | Take-home trays | |
|---|---|---|
| Time in clinic | About 1-1.5 hours | Short visit for scan and tray fitting |
| Time to visible result | Same day | About 1-2 weeks |
| Gel strength | Higher, applied by the dental team | Lower, applied at home |
| Sensitivity | More likely, usually 24-48 h | Usually mild |
| Best for | Short stays, events | Gradual change, top-ups |
